Key Resume Modifications Can Improve Your Chances of Getting a Web Developer Job

The IT (Information Technology) field is an exciting field to work in, especially in the area of Web Development. There are many computer languages to program with but the ones that stand out are Microsoft Visual Studio.Net which includes C# and Visual Basic (VB.Net). PHP/MySQL, Cold Fusion, Perl/CGI is also popular Web languages.

I have been a Web Developer for over 15 years and have enjoyed every minute of it and wonder why more people don't get into it. The average programmer came make very good money depending on experience and what part of the country you live in. Yearly income can go as high as six figures and the average salary ranges from about 60 to 80k or more. Job security is another factor that stands out as compared to other fields, which make it relatively stable. One major reason I decided to write this article is to pass on information I have learned over the years. I want to provide information that might help someone out there struggling with their resume and need some help in knowing how to gear it to the Web Development position you are applying for.

I want to give some key information you can add to your resume that have worked for me in getting my last Web Development jobs. First I want to tell you that I received five job offers between 2007 and 2009 and I was not necessarily looking for a programming job. I'll discuss this further below but this just goes to show that my experience was in high demand for the companies viewing my resume and eventually brought me in for an interview, which resulted in me getting hired. Some of the tips I'm providing below might sound unreasonable or hard to achieve but anything worth wild is going to take some work. Hang in there and set specific goals to achieve and go for it. The following tips below are actual section headings I have listed on my resume:

1. Education - The first thing that most companies like to see is a degree listed on your resume whether it's an associate or bachelor but primarily a bachelors degree. A major or minor in Computer Science or Related degree if preferable.

2. Career Summary - You need to write a nice summary of your overall experience along with the total years worked in the field. Here is a quick example of how to start the wording: "Over 15 years of Web Development experience in the field of Computer Information Systems".

3. Operating Systems/Hardware Platforms - You should list the Operating Systems and Hardware Platforms you have worked with previously.

4. Languages - Add any programming languages you have experience with and make sure to add the ones that match the development job you are applying for.

5. Employment History/Experience - List your job experience with the most current jobs listed first. Make sure you gear your experience toward the job you are applying for which will get the hiring manager's attention the more your experience matches what the company is looking for. You should be truthfully about your experience in gearing it toward the job you are applying for.

6. Security Clearance - Make sure to add the security clearance if you have one and whether it is active or not. This will be a plus if the programming job requires one.

7. Awards - List any awards or special recognition you received through out your career which will be a plus to the hiring manager.

8. References - Make sure to add this section and specify the references will be furnished upon request. Your references can be added on the company application.

9. You need to also add your name (main heading) center at the very top of the resume and your home and or cell phone (sub heading) right under your name positioned to the left side of the page. The main heading, sub heading and section headings should all be in bold print.

You might wonder why I didn't recommend adding any type certifications that you might have. You should add or include any certification on your resume, which will be plus in getting an interview. The reasons I didn't list a heading for certifications above is because I didn't have any but have successfully gotten Web Development job without it.

Remember I said I would discuss the job offers I received, well one additional reason for me getting the interviews and offers I mentioned was that I place my resume on the Monster (Monster.com) and Career Builder (CareerBuilder.com) websites. These are popular websites where managers from high tech companies are constantly looking to hire Web Developers and Computer Programmers. They are always searching for qualified people. You should check out the websites and once you complete your resume place it on both web sites.

The categories and tips I listed above are on my resume and I have used them for years and had great success. Acquiring lots of experience as a Web Developer will come over time but be truthful and add information and experience to your resume that will be geared toward the job you are applying for. Good luck in your job searches.

Starting Your Very Own Plumbing Company

Whether you have a simple interest in the plumbing field, or are currently employed under someone else, starting up your own plumbing company may just be a path worth traveling. The benefits to owning your own business are many, and the start up costs for this particular profession can be rather low. In this article, we will outline the steps to getting your business off the ground.

Step 1 - Get in contact with the state licensing board in which you are hoping to practice in order to determine which type of license you will require to start your own plumbing company. In most cases, independent contractors will need a master's or journeyman license in order to begin working. Additionally, some states will require that contractors work an apprenticeship for a period of 4 years prior to applying for certification.

Step 2 - Research the building codes in your residing county. Many times, you will be able to obtain these manuals from the building department in your area.

Step 3 - Purchase any and all tools you will need to get working on your plumbing company. Basic equipment such as power saws, pipe wrenches, tubing cutters, and snakes are all essential to the operation of a successful business.

Step 4 - Spend the time to build relationships with various home and garden shops and plumbing supply stores. You may decide open a credit line. Many companies will offer discounted rates for customers whom they deal with directly. Evaluate your options and make those connections. A reliable supply shop will be able to provide various toilet accessories, pipes, and fixtures without hesitation. Continuously seek out ways that will allow you to cut costs without sacrificing the quality of the work you will provide.

Step 5 - Sit down and write out a price list for your services. You will need to outline all the expenses, including parts, equipment, payroll, vehicle expenses, etc. You can then use this sheet to help in determining the rate you will charge in order to profit. Create a series of checklists and invoices which you can present to clients.

Step 6 - Educate yourself regarding the bidding process associated with the field. This will help to expand your client base, while initially getting your foot in the door. Make sure you have the means to complete each job you bid for, and consider the costs associated with them.

Step 7 - Advertise! Start by telling friends and family, and take out print ads in local publications around town. And of course, always treat your customers like gold. Word of mouth is perhaps the best form of advertisement there is, not to mention it's free. Utilize this resource and watch your business swell.

Physical Therapy Certification

A career in physical therapy requires you to undergo certification first before you are allowed to practice anywhere in the United States. This means that you need to graduate from a PT program that is approved by the American Physical Therapy Association's Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.

There are currently more than 200 accredited programs in the country that offer PT certification in either a two-year master's degree program or a three-year doctoral degree program. Students must apply for and complete either one of these programs to qualify for certification.

Some of the coursework you need to master include biology, human growth and development, chemistry and other specialized courses that are part of the Physical Therapy program. In addition, students are required to volunteer in the Physical Therapy department of a hospital or clinic for a specified length of time before they become eligible for certification.

After completion of these programs and requirements, students are now eligible to sit for the national and state licensure exams. You need to pass these exams first before you can gain employment as a physical therapist in any setting, whether it be in a hospital, a private clinic, a school, nursing home, corporate facilities, etc.

The National Physical Therapist Examination (NPTE) was developed by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy and all 50 states in the United States plus three additional jurisdictions use the NPTE as a factor for certification of both physical therapists and physical therapy assistants. The NPTE is computer-based and candidates for physical therapy are given five hours to write it while candidates for physical therapy assistants are given four hours to write it.

This exam can be taken in any of the 300 testing centers in the United States, US territories, and Canada. You need to pass the exam. After passing the exam, you now need to complete any other requirements your state licensing board may have before you are allowed to practice in that state.

Finally, when you have met all their requirements, you will then be given the designation of physical therapist and you are now officially qualified to help accident victims and other people suffering from head traumas, back pain, cerebral palsy and other debilitating diseases recover and help restore and maintain mobility in their bodies. You can now also measure a patient's range of motion, strength, motor function and muscle capacity, which will then be the basis for your preparation of the appropriate treatment protocol for the patients in question.

Physical therapists are certified to use ultrasound equipment, traction, electrical stimulation and cold and hot compresses. They can also instruct patients how to move independently of their wheelchairs and crutches through basic and complex exercise movements that strengthen, balance and help patients stay coordinated on their own.

Certification in PT need not be a complicated process. Just follow these guidelines and you will be well on your way to a rewarding career as a certified physical therapist.

Medical Terminology - First Step on a New Career Path

In these days of economic uncertainty, career change is a hot button issue. As baby boomers retire and leave the work force, employers are concerned about the shortage of skilled workers. In addition, corporate cost cutting, off-shoring, layoffs, and forced career changes leave many workers with difficult choices. Gone are the days of one job and one employer for life. Following a career path today can mean maneuvering many twists and turns, setbacks, side roads, and blind alleys. Where is the roadmap to a new career that provides enrichment, stability and growth potential?

One of the best ways to ease some of the uncertainty and increase your marketability quotient is to broaden your skill set. Since continuing education is often required to maintain licenses and certifications, make those education hours do double duty. The right training can mean more opportunities in your current field, and serve as a stepping stone to a new career. But which industries offer the best chance for job stability and advancement?

It is predicted that expanding healthcare and healthcare-related industries will require many additional skilled workers in the coming decade. According to Forbes Magazine, "As well-heeled baby boomers age, look to the health care industry... (B)etween 2004 and 2014, seven of the 10 fastest-growing jobs in the U.S. will be in health care." In addition to careers directly involved in patient care, demand for support professionals such as medical records and health information technicians, therapists, counselors, and medical transcriptionists will increase.

A basic requirement for entry into almost any healthcare-related career is a command of medical terminology. The ability to recognize, understand, spell, and pronounce basic medical terms, identify medical abbreviations, and decipher unfamiliar words using roots, suffixes and prefixes is a necessary tool to perform well in any medical setting. Medical terminology courses are widely available in online, home study and instructor-led formats. Because medical technology advances rapidly, medical terminology evolves to keep pace. To stay on top of new terminology, consider taking the course again if you've taken it in the past.

The Department of Labor database lists seven nontraditional careers that require medical terminology:

Medical Transcriptionists - To understand and accurately transcribe dictated reports, medical transcriptionists must understand medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, diagnostic procedures, pharmacology, and treatment assessments. They also must be able to translate medical jargon and abbreviations into their expanded forms.

Medical Records and Health Information Technicians - In addition to general education, coursework requirements for medical records and health information technicians includes medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, legal aspects of health information, health data standards, coding and abstraction of data, statistics, database management, quality improvement methods, and computer science.

Surgical Technologists - Surgical technologists receive their training in formal programs offered by community and junior colleges, vocational schools, universities, hospitals, and the military. In 2006, the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) recognized more than 400 accredited training programs. Programs last from 9 to 24 months and lead to a certificate, diploma, or associate degree. Programs provide classroom education and supervised clinical experience. Students take courses in anatomy, physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, professional ethics, and medical terminology. Other topics covered include the care and safety of patients during surgery, sterile techniques, and surgical procedures. Students also learn to sterilize instruments; prevent and control infection; and handle special drugs, solutions, supplies, and equipment. Most employers prefer to hire certified technologists.

Occupational Therapist Assistants and Aides - There were 126 accredited occupational therapist assistant programs in 2007. The first year of study typically involves an introduction to health care, basic medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. In the second year, courses are more rigorous and usually include occupational therapist courses in areas such as mental health, adult physical disabilities, gerontology, and pediatrics. Students also must complete 16 weeks of supervised fieldwork in a clinic or community setting.

Radiologic Technologists and Technicians - The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology accredits most formal training programs for the field. The committee accredited more than 600 radiography programs in 2007. The programs provide both classroom and clinical instruction in anatomy and physiology, patient care procedures, radiation physics, radiation protection, principles of imaging, medical terminology, positioning of patients, medical ethics, radiobiology, and pathology.

Medical Assistants - Postsecondary medical assisting programs are offered in vocational-technical high schools, postsecondary vocational schools, and community and junior colleges. Programs usually last either 1 year and result in a certificate or diploma, or 2 years and result in an associate degree. Courses cover anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology, as well as typing, transcription, recordkeeping, accounting, and insurance processing. Students learn laboratory techniques, clinical and diagnostic procedures, pharmaceutical principles, the administration of medications, and first aid. They also study office practices, patient relations, medical law, and ethics. There are various organizations that accredit medical assisting programs, and accredited programs often include an internship that provides practical experience in physicians' offices, hospitals, or other health care facilities.

Court Reporters - Candidates for first level court reporting certification - the CVR - must pass a written test of spelling, punctuation, vocabulary, legal and medical terminology and three 5-minute dictation and transcription examinations that test for speed, accuracy, and silence.

In addition to these fields, many other professionals can benefit from an understanding of medical terminology. Lawyers, paralegals, legal secretaries and other legal professionals handling cases involving medical-related issues are better able to litigate these cases when they understand the terminology involved. Health insurance professionals, as well as those working in medical billing and coding positions also benefit from a working knowledge of medical terminology.

Many agencies require certification in medical terminology for pharmacy technicians. Professionals and technicians of biology, dentistry, hospital administration and many others must properly utilize medical terminology to communicate with patients, staff, customers and colleagues. Therapists, technicians, counselors and home health care providers can improve communication, increase the quality of care to patients, and reduce oversights and liability issues with a clear understanding of medical terminology.

A course in medical terminology is a widely accessible means to broaden your skill set, boost your marketability, and increase opportunities for advancement in your current career while helping you map a route to exciting work in the healthcare industry. Doubling the value of your time and education leads to better employment that will enrich your life.

Pipe Welding Certification Tests - UA Welding Tests

The United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters (UA) identifies their standard pipe welding tests with the letters UA, a dash, and then a number. Like UA-1, UA-2, etc.

There is a list available that goes all the way to UA-92. That does not mean there are only 92 tests ever given. There are many more possibilities but the Pipe fitters Union (UA) had to go all the way to # 92 to identify the most common pipe tests. However, this does serve as kind of an example to how many possibilities exist for pipe welding certification tests.

With 4 different welding processes used for pipe welding (Gas Metal Arc / GMAW, Flux Core Arc / FCAW, Shielded Metal Arc / SMAW, and Gas Tungsten Arc / GTAW) and several different metal groups being welded (like carbon steel, stainless steel, and even aluminum), its no wonder so many different pipe welding certification tests are required to certify welders for the scope of work being done on a job or job site.

ASME Section IX is a commonly referred to document in pipe welding used to determine welder certification requirements as well as qualification limitations.

Some of the common limitations are thickness, position, and diameter of pipe.

For example a welder passing a tig welding certification test on 2 inch schedule 80 pipe in a 6G position is qualified to weld 1 inch and greater diameter pipe, up to 436" thick and in all positions.

But a welder passing a test on 6" schedule 40 in a 6G position is qualified to weld in all positions but only up to.560" thick and only down to 2.875" pipe diameter.

If you are reading this and are wonder what rectal database they pulled these numbers from, I am with you on that. Its seems kind of silly that once you have.560" of filler metal deposited, that you are not qualified to put more.

I am just saying.

The Spicy Hot Foods of Korean Cuisine - A Most Unlikely Place For Traditional Hot and Spicy Cooking

Generally, many places that you will find hot and spicy food around the world have a couple of things in common. These locations are usually tropical and/or hot places, geographically, or they were part of a major spice route centuries ago. Korea is neither tropical or hot, having a rather cold climate overall. Nor has it ever been on a major spice route.

Without any of these traits, Korea is said to have the highest per capita consumption of chiles in the world. So how did this Korean love of hot and spicy food come about? The chile made it's first appearance in the region in China in the 12th century, where it is believed to have been introduced by the Portuguese. They introduced the Chinese to the hot pepper, and from there some seeds made it from China into Korean hands, and on into Korea. There is also a belief that the chile was brought over by the Dutch to Korea much later, around the 17th century.

Even before the arrival of the chile, Korea was already preparing food that was spicy. The pungency of Korean food came from the use of mustard plant and radishes in cooking, which, with the use of chiles, still exists today.

The most popular of chiles in Korea is a variety known as koch's. This is a long, finger-like chile, with a smooth skin that tapers at the end. It is most similar to the Anaheim or New Mexico chile common in the Western world.

This chile is used to make a hot, red chile powder that is sold in three grades: course grade, flaked, and fine. The course grade is often used to make kimchi, a type of fermented cabbage very popular in Korea. The flaked version of the chile is most often used as a zesty garnish. The fine grade is most often used to make a red hot chile paste known as koch'ujang, which is used in almost every prepared Korean dish. It is a complex paste that is traditionally made in the home, but can be readily found in Korean and Asian markets. Besides the fine red hot chile powder, the paste contains barley malt powder, water, sweet rice flour, hot red chile powder, fermented soybean paste, soy sauce, and salt.

Is The Heat On? Maybe You're Having A Hot Flash!

Hot flashes are characterized by a sudden feeling of heat often accompanied with a reddening of the face and profuse sweating. For some, it is as mild as a brief warm flushing of the face and skin. For others, it is experienced as an intense heat on the face and upper body with intense sweating. Sometimes hot flashes are also accompanied by an increased heart rate, nausea, dizziness, anxiety, weakness or a feel of suffocation.

Physiologically speaking, hot flashes are the body's reaction to a decreased supply of estrogen. Typically this occurs when a women approaches menopause. Every woman's experience of this important life change is different, unpredictable and highly individual and they all follow their own pattern. In some production of estrogen decreases gradually, producing few flashes. In others, the ovaries stop abruptly or start and stop before production ends completely. For these women, hot flashes can become tricky.

Dropping estrogen levels confuse the hypothalamus (the part of the brain that controls appetite, sleep, sex hormones and temperature), where it makes the body think it is too hot. This activates the body's heat releasing mechanism where it causes the blood vessels in the skin to expand, increasing blood flow to help dissipate heat. At the same time, the sweat glands begin producing sweat in an effort to cool the body off even more.

Not all women experience hot flashes, but more than half of them do. In fact, it is estimated that nearly 85% of all women in the US experience hot flashes in one way or another. Hot flashes often begin before a woman notices a change in her menstrual cycle and can start as early as her late 30's and early 40's. It is typically the first sign that menopause is approaching.

Usually experienced for a short period of time, some women complain of them all the time for a number of years. Most women begin to experience hot flashes 1-2 years before menopause and they end within a year of their last menstrual cycle. Some women can experience hot flashes up to and sometimes more than 5 years after their last menstrual cycle.

While estrogen therapy is the traditional solution to hot flashes it is good to try a less drastic measure first. Below are some things you can try to help reduce the heat of hot flashes.

Recommendations For Wellness

Dress in layers so you can peel off a layer if you start to feel warm.

Stick to cottons, linens and rayon and avoid wools and synthetic blends.

Try to keep some ice water on hand to sip on and cool down your insides.

Turn down the thermostat, buy an air conditioner or a ceiling fan to help keep your environment cool.

Silly as this may sound, many women report sticking their heads in the freezer when a hot flash hits.

Try to identify what is triggering your hot flashes. Keep a record of when they occur, what you're are eating or doing and how you're feeling at the time a hot flash strikes.

Incorporate massage, meditation, yoga, breathing exercises and other techniques to help you reduce your stress level.

Herbs such as black cohosh, chaste tree, wild yam and don quai have historically been used to relieve menopausal symptoms including hot flashes.

Talk to your health care provider about natural bio-identical hormone replacements.

A menopause homeopathic may also help to alleviate hot flashes, relieve pain and hyper-sensitivity.
